Behind the Curtain

Ahhh, the eyesore! I finally got a case that holds all of our DVD's with some room to spare for more. But I really couldn't stand to look at them anymore. I love that we have so many to choose from, but I didn't need to see them all the time.

So, I was on a mission to try and cover them up. I wanted to have a curtain rod, but I didn't have any way to attach it to the case. I can't even tell you how hard it was to figure out. I had fabric that matched the curtains that I made and decided to use that. It's in three different panels that are attached with velco (which if my Mom is reading this right now, I'm sure she's having a mild heart attack. She dispises the stuff!) I can't say that I blame her. I don't like it either. And if there was a way to NOT use it, I would have. But for now, it works. The DVD's are covered, Ryan can't get to them and it looks prettier. Now all I need to do is decorate the top of it. It's looking mighty bare.

A Little Bit of Red

Here's my sad looking bench that sits right outside out back door. My friend gave this to me a long time ago and I've never done anything with it other than plant my behind on it. It's really worn and it needed an update.

So, I went off to Lowe's and found some pretty spray paint. Here's my after. I was thinking about making it green, but the only one I could find was super bright. So, I went with red instead. I hope it doesn't clash with my brick.
Anyway, I love it. I really want to get my porch looking nice too. I'd love to be able to sit out there and enjoy it. One thing at a time I suppose.

More Mistreating

The Nester is having a mistreating party!! Since I added another mistreatment to my home, I decided to post the other mistreatments I've done too.

Here are the ones in my nook. Easy peasy! I just tacked them up. I love the way these turned out. This literally took me minutes!! I made the panel on the right bigger. I was thinner before. I like this better. I also added a bow. I like bows. :) These are the ones I hung in my laundry room above the cabinets. I made little loops on top and then tacked these to the ceiling. And it stays! NICE!!! They hide all my junk that no one needs to see. I tend to just throw stuff on top to keep it out of the way and now I don't have to worry about it looking messy anymore! It's also another little peek into what I'm doing with this room!

A Little Sneak Peak

As I was reading Joys of Home (one of my favorite idea blogs!!), I came across this post of hers. It was titled Under Five Bucks & Under Five Minutes. I thought to myself...well, there ya go! I know what to do with the plaque and letter I had bought about a month ago. I knew I wanted something, but just didn't know what. So, here's my take on it. It's a bit on the funky side, but it's a sneak peak into my laundry room. Yeah, I'm gonna go wild in that room. I figured since I'm in there all the time, I need to make it pretty. And I wanted to be different.

Anyway, I hung mine on the wall. I'm just wondering if it needs a little something else. I'm still not that great at the whole painting thing either and me trying to highlight my "M" wasn't the best, but you know what? I love it!

I'm glad she posted it. It got me to finally tackle that project! Thank you!

Painting

So, here's the color of my walls before. It's not a bad color at all, but it's all over the house and I'm tired of looking at it. Krista said she would help me paint because she's the sweetest friend EVER!

We looked at swatch colors and decided on Great Green. I bought a sample size and painted this wall. I wanted to make sure it was a color that I liked. So, I looked at it for a day, in all the different light, and decided I wanted to go for it. This is what it looked like in the morning. Please don't mind the photography. I'm by no means a professional. Maybe I should've had Mike take them. Or Christina if she lived closer. They're both good at taking pictures!

(Don't mind the valance. I didn't tack it all the way back up yet.) And the more I looked at it, the more I didn't like it. I mean, it was a pretty color and all, but it didn't look right. So, I went to Lowe's and picked something similar. But not so greeney. This one is called Grasslands. Much better!
I like the outcome much better. I painted all of it myself though. I couldn't bring myself to ask Krista to help me again. Especially after she did the first time and I didn't like it. Live and learn.
So pretty huh? I love how it makes the wood look much nicer!
Yup, I really like this much better! I'm so happy with it! I should've painted a long time ago!

I Hid Mine

Here is another lovely idea I got from the Nester. She's very creative when it comes to hiding unsightly things that HAVE to be displayed thru the house. So, here is my after. Can you guess what it is that I'm trying to hide?

Here is it. That ugly thermostat. ICK! Glad I don't need to look at it anymore!

I picked the smallest ledge I could find. I'm thinking that I should've went a little bigger, but overall, I'm pleased with the outcome.

My Window Mistreatments

Yes, I wrote that right. "MIS"treatments. It's b/c I just tacked them up. Pretty clever huh? I got the idea from Christina who showed me the Nesting Place Blog.

So, now my goal is to get my house looking like a home. I'm getting there. Here is my nook.

A close up.My curtains in the family room. I really like the way these turned out. I think I'm going to make some pillows that match the fabric on the bottom for the couch. Another close up. And I'm trying to get my mantle looking pretty too. Not sure what I need to do. Maybe add a plant? Does anyone have suggestions? Really, I open to anything.

So, this is what I've started on. I think I'm going to make some cushions for the chairs in the nook to bring in more color. I also want to start finding things to put on my walls. They are so blank. HELP!
